Research Proposal on Homeless
Homelessness is a growing problem facing the world today. Still not much is going on to help. The homeless have no jobs or shelter and are in major need of some more help from citizens everywhere. There are a lot of volunteer groups doing things but its still not enough. There is still a lot more to be done.
A person can become homeless because they can't pay for housing, cannot get a job, or due to some natural disaster. It is estimated that 1.2 billion people around the world live in poverty. Some think there are 350,000 to 3 million homeless people living in the United States today. Famines and war also cause people to become homeless. Women and children are among the new homeless population due to high divorce rate, young mothers, and run away teens. The homeless need food, clothing, low cost housing, health services, and better paying jobs. They once again need to become a part of communities.
Homelessness wears down a person's mind and body. Surviving day by day is the main focus. Just worrying about food and shelter leaves people feeling hopeless and helpless. There is no safety or security with being homeless. When a person volunteers their time to helping out they also benefit. Private organizations account for more than a third of the aid for homeless Americans. Homelessness is a reflection of the way society cares for citizens. As a part of society we should take the time to make it better.
President Franklin Delano Roosevelt began the "New Deal" in the 1930s. this created millions of jobs and helped the homeless to get back on their feet. Social Security was created to help the poor, elderly, and disabled. Medicare, Medicaid, and food stamps also helped the poor in many ways. Some things that people could to help is to work at soup kitchens, tutor at a homeless shelter, start a volunteer youth corps, or students could even write letters to organizations about information on how to help in other ways.
Everyone in the U.S. has the same basic human rights. That means homeless people have a right to good housing, clothing, medical care, and food. Some people are already helping but there are still a lot more who aren't. Governments also need to step in and help. There is no need for people to live like this. Just the littlest thing could make a huge difference.
